Big shoes to fill: Sandon Smith steps up

In a twist of fate that could be seen as a cruel blow or a golden opportunity, the Sydney Roosters have been forced to make changes to their lineup as a result of ACL injuries to star players Brandon Smith and Sam Walker.

This news may have thrown a spanner in the works for their premiership hopes, but it has also paved the way for two rising stars to step up and shine on the big stage.

The versatile Connor Watson, known for his ability to slot in anywhere on the field, will be stepping into the dummy-half role previously occupied by Smith.

Regarded as a 'Mr Fix-It', Watson's natural athleticism and talent make him a seamless replacement in the Roosters lineup.

With his transition, he can now play a more direct role in dictating play and leading the team forward.

On the other hand, the absence of playmaker Sam Walker means that Sandon Smith will now be entrusted with a pivotal role in the team's attack.

This young gun, fresh off a standout performance in the NSW Cup where he clinched victory with a crucial try against the Canberra Raiders, is set to partner Luke Keary in the halves.

It's a significant step up for Smith, but one that he is eager to embrace as he looks to make his mark on the NRL stage.

"I've been putting in the hard yards with Sam and Luke, both on and off the field.

We're constantly pushing each other to be better and to elevate the game," Smith shared with Zero Tackle recently.

As he gears up to lead the Roosters into the finals series, Smith knows he's facing a challenge unlike any other, but he's ready to tackle it head-on and make his mark on the game.
