According to reports, Benji Marshall was "over-ruled" by Wests Tigers bosses in the decision to sack assistant coach David Furner.
Furner, a former NRL player and head coach, had been a loyal assistant to Tim Sheens.
However, he has become the latest casualty in the club's coaching clean-out.
Furner was let go despite having a contract until the 2024 season, paying the price for the Tigers' poor performance this year.
It was revealed that Furner had been promised a job by Marshall when the latter took over as head coach.
However, Marshall was reportedly overruled, leading to Furner's departure.
Furner has an impressive rugby league career, having played 200 games for the Canberra Raiders in the NRL and coaching Canberra and Leeds, among others.
His exit follows the premature removal of Sheens from the head coaching role to make way for Marshall.
