Ben Hunt Extends Stay with Broncos

Ben Hunt Extends His NRL Career

The Brisbane Broncos have officially announced that Ben Hunt will continue playing for another year, signing on for the 2027 NRL season.

The experienced half and hooker had been uncertain about his future, contemplating retirement at the end of this season. However, he has ultimately decided to prolong his career by at least an additional twelve months.

"The Broncos have always been home for me and I'm incredibly grateful for everything this Club has given me over the years," Hunt expressed regarding his decision to re-sign.

"I love being part of this group, I still feel like I've got plenty to offer and my body feels great," he continued.

"I really enjoy helping the younger players develop and navigate their own journeys in the NRL."

This decision allows Hunt to continue playing either in a halfback or hooker role. Nevertheless, it prompts questions about the team's balance at Red Hill, especially with coach Michael Maguire searching for solutions following six consecutive losses.

The Broncos have also recently secured halfback Tom Duffy and will welcome Jonah Pezet from the Parramatta Eels later this year. Meanwhile, Adam Reynolds is set to retire.

With halfback positions seemingly filled, and Ezra Mam likely to stay at five-eighth, the Broncos have Cory Paix, Cameron Bukowski, and Blake Mozer ready for the number nine role in 2027.

The club is also negotiating with Billy Walter, although the injured player is uncertain about his future, facing potential salary cap and roster challenges.
