The Perth Bears are making significant moves as they prepare for their inaugural NRL season next year.
They have successfully secured young half Jasais Ah Kee from the St George Illawarra Dragons on a multi-year contract.
A promising talent, Ah Kee unfortunately missed the 2026 junior representative season due to injury.
However, he managed to impress enough to earn an NRL contract, with Code Sports reporting that he has signed for three years to join the Bears in the west.
The 18-year-old's journey with the Bears will kick off with a train-and-trial deal in 2027.
After that, he will be integrated into the club's development squad before moving into the top 30 during the final year of his contract.
Ah Kee is known for his explosive running game and versatility, playing both in the halves and at fullback.
He plans to hone his skills in the lower tiers before making his mark in the NRL in the future.
Other clubs, such as the Wests Tigers and the New Zealand Warriors, were also interested in him.
However, Mal Meninga has successfully brought him to the NRL's newest franchise.
A product of the Dragons' development program, Ah Kee represented Patrician Brothers Blacktown in the Peter Mulholland Cup.
He clinched the player of the match title in last season's final, showcasing his potential.
Notable alumni from Patrician Brothers include NRL stars like Jarome Luai and Stephen Crichton.
In 2025, Ah Kee was recognized as the Dragons' Harold Matthews Player of the Year, following a standout season in the five-eighth position.
Reports suggest he will begin at the SG Ball level and progress through Jersey Flegg, eventually reaching NSW Cup if his performance aligns.
