The Perth Bears are in discussions to potentially sign Mavrik Geyer, a second-rower from the Tigers, on a contract that spans multiple years, as reported by Code Sports.
Geyer, who joined the Tigers this season on a one-year deal for 2026, previously competed for the Panthers' NSW Cup team and made several appearances in the first-grade from 2024 to 2025.
At 25 years old, Mavrik is the son of Mark Geyer, a former NRL enforcer who relocated to Perth three decades ago to play for the Western Reds.
Interestingly, Mark was part of the last Perth team in 1997, making it notable that his son could play for the newly revived Bears franchise in 2027, creating a full-circle moment for the family.
If the signing is finalized, Mavrik Geyer would become the third player from Penrith's 2024 premiership-winning roster to sign with Mal Meninga's Bears.
Additionally, Panthers prop Liam Henry was among the first to join the Bears, while rumors persist regarding a possible acquisition of Scott Sorensen.
Mavrik Geyer kicked off his first-grade career in 2024, competing in 11 games that season, and he participated in three matches for the squad last year.
