The Perth Bears are reportedly narrowing their coaching search to two primary candidates: Sam Burgess and Mal Meninga.
This news comes as a surprise, given that previous frontrunner Brad Arthur, the former Parramatta Eels coach and current Leeds Rhinos boss, was widely considered the likely successor for the NRL's 18th club ahead of its entry into the league in 2027.
Former Brisbane Broncos coach Kevin Walters also expressed interest, stating he had discussions with the NRL regarding the position and is keen on the role.
However, recent reports suggest that Burgess and Meninga have emerged as the leading candidates for the inaugural coaching position.
