'Bash-fest': Bati ready for forward battle with rejuvinated Aitu

As Aitu prepares for a World Cup qualifier against South Africa following their Pacific Bowl campaign in Papua New Guinea, coach Karmichael Hunt acknowledges the strength of his squad this year. The team welcomes back key players, including Brendan Piakura, Marate Niukore, and KL Iro, who are eager to represent their Cook Islands heritage.

Donoghoe has experienced a versatile season, playing 12 of his 22 matches for the Dolphins in the lock position, but he is excited to take on a role on the edge with Fiji. He made his Test debut in 2023 after only a handful of NRL appearances.

Piakura, known for his imposing presence and a vital part of the Broncos' premiership-winning team, last competed for the Cook Islands during the 2022 World Cup. Niukore is also making a return to Aitu after previously aligning with New Zealand.
