Barrett reveals players' motivation behind form on field

Trent Barrett, the head honcho at the Parramatta Eels, has spilled the beans on his future plans, revealing that he and his players are essentially in a high-stakes game of rugby for their contracts.

According to reports from the footy buffs at zerotackle.com, Barrett will be calling the shots at the Eels until the end of the season, taking the reins from the fallen Brad Arthur.

However, the real kicker comes with the news that Jason Ryles is set to take on the top coaching spot at the start of the 2025 season, leaving Barrett out in the cold with a few potential plays up his sleeve.

"I don't reckon I'll be running the show from the sidelines, but there's still a crack open for me to stick around in some capacity," Barrett let slip to the media before the Eels face off against the Melbourne Storm this weekend.

"I'm weighing up my options, but right now, my focus is on the grind for the next seven weeks.

We're a bit up the creek without a paddle when it comes to player numbers at the moment, we still haven't nailed down tomorrow night's lineup."
