Trent Barrett, the Brisbane Broncos assistant coach, is eager to resume a head coaching position but emphasizes that he is not in a hurry, as he values the learning and contributions made in his current role.
Joining the Broncos at the year's start, Barrett has significantly contributed under Michael Maguire, aiding Brisbane in securing their first NRL Premiership since 2006 after two seasons as an assistant at Parramatta.
Barrett's previous coaching experience includes roles as head coach for the Manly Sea Eagles and the Canterbury Bulldogs, as well as a caretaker position at Parramatta. He shared with SEN 1170 Breakfast his ongoing aspirations to lead a team, but he is adopting a more patient approach this time around.
"I would love to have another go at being a head coach," Barrett said.
"But I'm happy to continue being part of the Broncos as an assistant."
"I've probably had two false starts with Manly and Canterbury and was probably warned against both of them at a young age by people I probably should have listened to."
Barrett reflected on these challenging experiences, acknowledging that they have been instrumental in his growth as a coach, providing him with a richer understanding of what it takes to excel in various coaching roles.
