Mitch Barnett is expected to make a crucial decision regarding his future within the next 48 hours, as four clubs vie for his signature.

The State of Origin prop will part ways with the New Zealand Warriors at the conclusion of the 2026 season due to personal reasons, prompting a return to Australia.

While Newcastle has been mentioned frequently, reports indicate that Barnett is close to finalizing a deal with the Brisbane Broncos. However, interest from the Parramatta Eels, St George Illawarra Dragons, and Manly Sea Eagles cannot be overlooked.

The Broncos were initially viewed as the frontrunners, largely due to Barnett's connection with Michael Maguire. Yet, recent reports indicate that the Eels have enhanced their offer to a three-year contract valued at $2.6 million, averaging slightly over $860,000 per season.

This proposal from the Eels now surpasses Brisbane's, which is rumored to be $1.5 million spread over two years, or about $750,000 annually.

Both the Dragons and Sea Eagles are still contenders, but it remains unclear whether formal offers from these clubs have been submitted.

Additionally, all four clubs must propose a player to the Warriors for Barnett's official release, despite the Auckland-based team already acknowledging he will not be returning next year.

According to News Corp, the Broncos have suggested teenage sensation Antonio Verhoeven as part of the negotiation, while Parramatta has offered up Jordan Samrani.

Furthermore, Tyrell Sloan from the Dragons, who is off-contract at season's end, along with Manly's impressive Jason Saab, are also potential candidates put forth by their teams to facilitate Barnett's transfer.
