Australia's Sydney streak looms over Kiwis

Australia have won all seven Tests against New Zealand at Sydney Football Stadium.

That record frames tonight's 2026 Rugby League World Cup opener in Sydney.

Since 2000, the teams have met 27 times in Australia, with the Kangaroos winning 22 matches and New Zealand five.

New Zealand's most recent win over Australia on Australian soil came in 2015, when the Kiwis prevailed 26-12 in Brisbane.

The Kangaroos' unbeaten run in Sydney dates to 2006.

Their last loss in the city was a 38-28 defeat to New Zealand in October 2005 at what is now Accor Stadium in Homebush.

Australia's World Cup record is formidable too.

Three-time defending champions, the Kangaroos have won 18 straight tournament matches since losing the 2008 final 34-20 to New Zealand at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium.

Records can be broken, but the Wallabies' punishing night in Auckland last Saturday showed how difficult that can be for Stacey Jones' team.
