Nelson Asofa-Solomona has officially claimed the title of Australia's new crossover king, with the potential for a $1 million bout against Paul Gallen looming on the horizon following his third consecutive victory over George Burgess.
The match in Brisbane was an entertaining affair, showcasing raw power more than technical skill, with Asofa-Solomona landing significant blows that had Burgess on the ropes, leading to his corner throwing in the towel in the third round.
Post-fight, both players extended heartfelt tributes to South Sydney's Jai Arrow, who recently disclosed his battle with motor neurone disease.
During an interview in the ring with Main Event's Ben Damon, Asofa-Solomona took off his fight trunks, announcing plans to auction them online, donating all funds to Arrow. Burgess added that he would follow suit, stating, "He's fighting a bigger fight than us," as he reflected on losing his father Mark to the same illness. "And we're all behind him."
Having triumphed over fellow rugby league players Jeremy Latimore and Jarrod Wallace, Asofa-Solomona is now setting his sights on a high-profile fight with NSW Origin legend Gallen.
Gallen, known for a strong boxing career, has notable wins against competitors such as Lucas Browne, Mark Hunt, and Sonny Bill Williams, and even came close to victory in an Australian heavyweight title bout against Justis Huni.
