Some supporters want Rugby League officials to impose a penalty when kickers exceed the allotted time, rather than simply allowing play to continue.
One social media user suggested: "30 seconds to take the kick or it's no goal."
Another cited rugby union rules, writing: "In rugby union the rules are, once you decide to take a shot at goal you have 60 seconds to make contact with the ball. Over that the attempt is waved away and play restarts as it would with a missed kick at goal."
Others proposed stopping the clock until the kick is taken. One wrote: "Turn clock off till he kicks the attempt, then turn it back on at kick off if necessary. Or when decision is made of it is a goal or not."
The calls followed Sam Walker's kicking performance in Australia's 36-22 World Cup win over Fiji on Sunday night. The Roosters halfback converted six of his seven attempts, but the time he took drew criticism.
World Cup rules follow the NRL limit of 100 seconds per attempt. The referee may stop the clock after 80 seconds, leaving the kicker 20 seconds to take the shot.
Timing begins when the Bunker confirms a try or the referee awards a penalty kick.
With the scores tied 16-16 after 54 minutes, Australia chose a penalty goal after Fiji's late hit on Blayke Brailey.
On Triple M, commentator Ben Dobbin said: "I've never seen him take this long. There's gamesmanship and then there's gamesmanship. He's taking all the time in the world."
Todd Carney later reacted to a conversion attempt by saying: "It's in front…what's he doing!?" ABC Sport commentators also criticised Walker's delays.
