Australia's Rugby League World Cup campaign begins against New Zealand on October 15, but Kevin Walters still faces difficult decisions at prop.
The forwards from last year's Ashes tour remain strong contenders, while several players with Kangaroos or State of Origin experience are also in contention.
Patrick Carrigan and Tino Fa'asuamaleaui can cover lock, although Australia has less need there. They are therefore expected to start at numbers eight and ten, as they did on the Ashes tour.
However, both may arrive without playing for a month after the Broncos and Titans missed the finals.
Tom Flegler has strengthened his case after returning from a career-threatening injury that sidelined him for two seasons.
The 27-year-old regained his Queensland place, performed strongly in Origin, and helped lead the Dolphins to within one match of the grand final.
Flegler has played once for Australia and could add to that total.
Lindsay Collins is expected to make the squad and may operate from the bench, while Reuben Cotter could also fill a second-row role.
Five additional players remain under consideration, including uncapped options, leaving Walters with one of his toughest selection calls.
