Rugby League legend and two-time premiership winner Andrew Johns has thrown his support behind a dark horse team to take out the 2024 NRL Premiership.

As the season heads towards the business end, with only two and a half rounds remaining, the competition is fierce.

With defending champions Penrith Panthers looking strong, contenders like the Cronulla Sharks, Sydney Roosters, and Melbourne Storm are vying for the top spot.

However, Johns, a former representative captain and rugby league great, sees potential in another team.

During an appearance on Wide World of Sports' Freddy and the Eighth, Johns revealed that he sees the Manly Sea Eagles as his 'smokey' to go all the way in the competition.

Despite currently sitting in seventh place on the ladder after a surprising loss to the Wests Tigers, Johns believes the Sea Eagles have what it takes to cause an upset.

The Sea Eagles' unexpected defeat to the Tigers, coinciding with Luke Brooks' return to Leichhardt Oval, hasn't deterred Johns from backing the team he sees as a dark horse.

With his experience and knowledge of the game, Johns' prediction adds an exciting twist to the race for the Grand Final.
