In a sport where positions are often defined by numbers, Botille Vette-Welsh defies convention as she prepares to line up in the centres for the Harvey Norman All Stars clash.
However, regardless of where she plays, as long as she wears the Māori All Stars jersey, she feels a sense of belonging and familiarity.
The journey hasn't been easy for Vette-Welsh, who suffered an ACL injury two years ago, but her determination to represent her heritage has never wavered.
She proudly states that she would even play prop if needed, showing her commitment and selflessness to the team.
Since her first Māori camp in 2019, Vette-Welsh has risen to become a Jillaroo and a representative for New South Wales, but she still views playing for her culture and family as the ultimate achievement of her career.
