The Wests Tigers have recognized the talent of young outside back Tino Tavana by awarding him his first NRL contract following an impressive performance during the 2025 season in both the NSW Cup and Under-21 Jersey Flegg Cup.
Tavana's exceptional form has earned him a train-and-trial contract for the 2026 NRL season, positioning him for potential first-grade selection starting from Round 11.
His journey with the club began in 2021 when he participated in the Under-17s Harold Matthews Cup for the Western Suburbs Magpies. Since then, he has competed alongside some of the top young NRL talents and aims to follow their successful path.
This was exemplified when he played a significant role in aiding the Magpies to the finals in the Under-19s SG Ball Cup two years later, teaming up with emerging stars like Heath Mason, Lachlan Galvin, and Tallyn Da Silva, all of whom have already made their first-grade debuts.
Primarily functioning as an outside back, the 20-year-old, born in Samoa, is also versatile enough to play at fullback, showcasing remarkable aerial skills during play.
"We want to keep seeing talent grow and develop across these sides and provide players with opportunities to progress and have greater involvement with the NRL squad," stated Wests Tigers Head of Football Matthew Betsey.
