Blake Steep, a young player for the Sydney Roosters, has received a remarkable distinction that surpasses any athletic achievement.
He has been honored with a silver medal for heroism, recognizing his exceptional bravery during a ceremony presided over by the Governor of New South Wales.
The medal was awarded by Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, as part of a Royal Humane Society event celebrating 46 individuals and first responders for their extraordinary acts of courage.
Steep's recognition came after he heroically saved his father, Brent, during a life-threatening situation earlier this year.
While they were spearfishing at Delicate Nobby, located near Port Macquarie, the 20-year-old noticed his father floating face down after experiencing a medical emergency.
In a display of quick thinking, Steep dragged his father to nearby rocks, enduring cuts and bruises along the way, before swimming 400 meters to shore to seek assistance.
He returned to his father to provide care until emergency services arrived.
