York Knights claimed their first 1895 Cup title by defeating Featherstone Rovers in a thrilling golden-point extra time match at Wembley.
According to reports from BBC, the decisive moment came when Liam Harris scored a 35-metre drop-goal in the fifth minute of extra time, securing a victory after a tryless regular time that ended in a 4-4 tie.
Featherstone aimed to make history by becoming the first team to win the 1895 Cup twice, having previously triumphed in 2021 against York.
They started the match strong, taking the lead with a penalty from scrum-half Ben Reynolds in the 12th minute.
However, as the game progressed, errors began to surface in Featherstone's play, allowing York to take command of a physically demanding first half.
The Knights equalized with a penalty from Harris and added another long-range penalty just as the first half concluded, taking a 4-2 lead into halftime after a dominant period.
With both teams fighting hard, the match remained close, and neither side managed to break the deadlock in the second half.
This set the stage for the extra time that saw York emerge victorious thanks to Harris's crucial drop-goal.
The win marked a significant achievement for the Knights, celebrating their inaugural victory in the competition.
