Penrith Panthers lock forward Isaah Yeo is optimistic about the benefits of new recruits as the team prepares for the 2026 season. The Panthers had a tumultuous start to the 2026 campaign, finding themselves at the bottom of the table at one point, yet they managed to reach the preliminary final.
Despite the rocky beginning, much of Penrith's core team remains intact, providing a foundation of stability. However, coach Ivan Cleary has made significant changes to the roster, letting go of several players.
The departures include Brad Schneider, Trent Toelau, Luke Sommerton, and Daine Laurie, all of whom were on the fringes of the first-grade team. Additionally, players like David Fale, Mavrik Geyer, Asu Kepaoa, Zack Lamont, Zac Lipowicz, and Riley Price have also left the club.
In response, the Panthers have bolstered their squad by bringing in talent from the New Zealand Warriors' NSW Cup-winning team, including Tom Ale, Kalani Going, and Freddy Lussick. Furthermore, Jack Cogger returns to the Panthers after a challenging stint with the Newcastle Knights.
Yeo remarked on the positive changes within the squad heading into the new season, stating, "We haven't lost many from the main 1 to 17, but we've had a real refresh in the boys underneath it," during an interview on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
