'the moment': Wheelaroos ready to topple England in Wheelchair Ashes opener

The Wheelaroos are set to challenge the reigning world champions, England, in the inaugural Test of the Wheelchair Ashes Series, as they gear up for next year's World Cup in Australia.

This matchup on October 30 at the Gold Coast Sports & Leisure Centre marks the first encounter between Australia and England since the opening match of the 2022 World Cup.

In that previous encounter, England triumphed over Australia, capturing a considerable television audience on BBC, and subsequently clinched the World Cup title by defeating France in a nail-biting final that drew in 1.3 million viewers.

For the upcoming Ashes Test, Australia has named nine players, including Dylan Gawthorne, who is poised to make his debut.

Brad Grove will lead the team and commemorate his 20th international appearance for Australia with this match. The squad also includes Sebastien Bechara (Catalan Dragons), Luis Domingos (Castleford Tigers), Jack Brown, Wayne Boardman, Rob Hawkins, Final O'Neill (Halifax Panthers), Nathan Collins (Leeds Rhinos), Mason Billington, Joe Coyd, and Lewis King (London Roosters).
