Warrington Wolves secured a strong 32-18 victory over St Helens at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in round nine of Super League, marking their return to winning form against local rivals.

This match was the third between the two teams in six weeks, with Warrington now leading the series 3-0 after previous wins in Super League and the Challenge Cup quarter-finals.

At halftime, Warrington held a narrow 16-14 lead.

The match saw a lack of defensive prowess from both sides, with Warrington scoring through a try from Toby King and two converted tries by Matty Ashton.

St Helens responded with tries from Jon Bennison and a double by Mark Percival, the latter of which was converted by George Whitby, closing the gap to just two points at the half.

The second half featured Warrington's resilience, even without key player Marc Sneyd.

Ashton completed his hat-trick, and additional tries from Rodrick Tai and Matt Dufty ensured the win for the Wolves.

St Helens managed only a late consolation try from Bennison in the second half.

With this victory, Warrington climbs to seventh place in the Super League table with 10 points, just behind St Helens and the Leeds Rhinos on points difference.

The Wolves' lowest possible position by the end of round nine is eighth, contingent on the results of Catalans Dragons and Wakefield Trinity.
