Breakout year has Willison charging into 2026 with lofty expectations
Xavier Willison approached the pre-season on November 1, 2024, feeling a mix of nerves and anticipation. As a rising forward for the Broncos, he had heard tales of the intense training sessions under coach Michael Maguire, making him uncertain about what lay ahead.
Fast forward a year, and Willison is now well aware of what to expect in his second pre-season with Maguire. He has also experienced the significant benefits that can arise from such rigorous training.
After achieving a remarkable 2025, which included clinching an NRL premiership and making his Test debut in New Zealand's successful campaign during the Pacific Championships, the 23-year-old is setting ambitious targets for 2026.
Willison is eager to contribute to Brisbane's title defense while also playing a pivotal role for the Kiwis as they aim for victory in the Rugby League World Cup.
Although these goals are highly challenging, Willison understands that the journey begins with a tough summer training block ahead.
