The Melbourne Storm's official website, melbournestorm.com.au, has reported that the upcoming clash between the Storm and the St George-Illawarra Dragons on Saturday night will not only be a battle for victory on the field, but also for the prestigious Emergency Services Cup.
This cup was first introduced in 2009 after the devastating Black Saturday Bushfires, and it serves as a tribute to the brave emergency services personnel who dedicate their lives to protecting local communities in Victoria and New South Wales.
The Storm currently holds the cup, having emerged victorious with a commanding 42-6 win over the Dragons in Round 9 of the 2022 season at AAMI Park.
Over the years, the Storm has dominated the competition, winning the cup a total of 13 times, while the Dragons have managed to secure the title on six occasions, all of which were achieved in their home state.
This annual clash has become a cherished tradition in the rugby league community, showcasing the unity and respect between the teams and the emergency services personnel who work tirelessly to keep the communities safe.
