The Rugby League World Cup, scheduled for 2025 in France, has been postponed to 2026.

The decision came after France withdrew as the host nation due to financial concerns.

The International Rugby League (IRL) has also announced the revival of the Ashes series, with England's men and women set to travel to Australia in 2025.

The series will see New Zealand and Australia make return visits in 2027 and 2028, respectively.

This year, the IRL will announce the host nation for the World Cup, with two presumed bids from Australia and New Zealand.

The tournament will feature a reduced field of 10 men's teams, along with eight-team women's and wheelchair World Cups.

IRL chairman Troy Grant stated that the host will be identified by the end of the year, following a thorough evaluation of the bids.
