On Thursday night, cowboys.com.au reported that the Paul Green Medal, honoring the man who led the Cowboys to their historic maiden premiership, will be contested in North Queensland for the first time.
The medal, jointly announced by the Cowboys and Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks earlier this year, will be presented to the player of the match in all fixtures between the two sides moving forward.
The sad news of Green's passing at the age of 49 on August 11, 2022, was also stated.
Green, the most successful coach in Cowboys history, guided the club to the finals in four of his seven seasons in charge, including the maiden 2015 premiership campaign and another grand final appearance in 2017.
Before his coaching career, Green had an impressive playing career, appearing in 162 premiership games, including 35 for the Cowboys and 95 for the Sharks, where he won the Rothmans Medal in 1995.
It was also mentioned that Green's son Jed will lead the Cowboys onto the field on Thursday, while his daughter Emerson will lead the Sharks out.
