Parramatta Eels forward Ryan Matterson may be on the verge of leaving the NRL as the team undergoes a roster rebuild under coach Jason Ryles.

The Eels have reportedly allowed Matterson, a former State of Origin representative, to speak with rival teams about a potential switch.

This season, he has struggled to secure a place in the first-grade lineup, spending most of his time in the NSW Cup.

Earlier reports indicated that several Super League teams were aware of Matterson's interest in moving away from the NRL.

The Daily Telegraph confirmed that his management has sought permission for him to negotiate with other teams this week.

Matterson is a 2018 premiership winner and has been with the Eels since 2020, following previous stints with the Sydney Roosters from 2016 to 2018 and the Wests Tigers in 2019.
