Will Broncos' Second-Rower Piakura Overcome Time for Round 1?

LeagueNews.co | Jess Malloy

In a blow to the Brisbane Broncos, second-rower Brendan Piakura is facing a race against the clock to be fit for Round 1.

Piakura suffered a medial cruciate ligament strain during the team's dominant trial win over the North Queensland Cowboys last weekend.

The highly-regarded youngster was set to fill the void left by Kurt Capewell's departure to the New Zealand Warriors, showcasing his talent in an expanded role this season.

Unfortunately, the scans conducted at Red Hill revealed a low-grade injury, casting doubt over his availability for the season opener.

The Broncos' head of performance, Dave Ballard, confirmed the news, stating that Piakura had picked up a strain to his MCL.

Will Piakura's determination and resilience see him recover in time to take the field in Round 1? Only time will tell.
