Wigan Warriors secured a narrow 22-20 victory over Warrington Wolves during the Magic Weekend at Newcastle's St James' Park.

The match saw Wigan take a 12-4 lead at half-time with converted tries from Jai Field and Bevan French, while Warrington managed to keep in touch with an unconverted try from Jake Thewlis.

In the second half, Warrington made an initial comeback, scoring with a try from Rodrick Tai, converted by Stefan Ratchford.

However, Wigan quickly responded with a try from Abbas Miski, followed by Adam Keighran racing over for another.

Despite Warrington's efforts, which included a converted try from Joe Philbin and a sensational corner score from Thewlis, they ultimately fell short as Ratchford failed to convert the second try.

Though Warrington faced defeat, head coach Sam Burgess remarked on the positives for his side, particularly given they were without key halfbacks Marc Sneyd and George Williams.

The match highlighted the rivalry between the two teams, with Warrington initially believing they had scored in the third minute through Matt Dufty, only for it to be ruled out due to a knock-on by Arron Lindop in the build-up.

Overall, it was a closely contested match, with Wigan demonstrating resilience to hold onto their slim lead and secure the win.
