Wigan Warriors women's team is gearing up for a significant season opener against York Valkyrie on Friday night, marking a double-header event at The Brick Community Stadium.

The game is notable as it precedes the Challenge Cup final where Wigan will face local rivals St Helens on June 7.

The Warriors are set to make history by competing in this final, aiming for their first title while the Saints pursue their fifth consecutive win.

Georgia Wilson, a key player for the Warriors, emphasizes the importance of the upcoming match against York Valkyrie rather than focusing solely on Wembley.

"We're trying not to mention too much about Wembley at the moment.

Obviously, it's really exciting and it's obviously the first time getting there, but we've got a massive game on Friday night against York," Wilson stated.

The match kicks off at 5:30 PM on Sky Sports Action, preceded by the Wigan men's team facing Leigh Leopards.

With this season opener, several players will experience playing at their home stadium and live on Sky Sports for the first time, adding to the significance of the event.

The Warriors are eager to showcase that they belong among the elite in the Women's Super League.
