Whispers of change: Johns eyed for Knights' helm

'Unfair' family detail as Andrew Johns makes call on becoming next Newcastle Knights coach

Andrew Johns has made it clear that he will not seek a coaching position with the Newcastle Knights should Adam O'Brien be fired, citing family obligations as a primary reason for his decision.

He stated that relocating from Sydney would be unfair to his young children and wife, Kate.

The NRL legend emphasized that he has no interest in becoming a head coach at any level.

Currently, the Knights are reportedly planning to part ways with O'Brien, especially as the team is sitting in 13th place on the ladder as they head into Round 20.

Fans have expressed a strong desire for Johns to take on a larger role within the organization, as many believe he would be an ideal candidate for head coach.

During a recent episode of the 'Immortal Behaviour' podcast, Johns reiterated his stance, explaining how his family's life is deeply rooted in Sydney.

"I'll never coach, because I haven't got the personality," he said when questioned by Allana Ferguson.

He dismissed the idea of commuting regularly to Newcastle, noting the impracticality of such a move.

He added, "I haven't got the personality and I haven't got the patience.

It would be like watching Charlie Sheen come undone.

It would be entertaining for everyone, but I've got a young family too and it's not fair on them."

Furthermore, Johns stressed the importance of focusing on the junior development programs as a priority for whoever takes over the coaching duties next season.

He commented, "The big question isn't about who coaches next - it's about what the next person does with the junior structure."
