Wests Tigers faced a devastating 17-16 golden point defeat against the Raiders at GIO Stadium in Round 9 of the NRLW, as reported by weststigers.com.au.
Elise Simpson, a teenage fullback, put the Raiders ahead early within the first two minutes. Back-rower Jordyn Preston further increased the Raiders' advantage to 10-0 by breaking through the Tigers' defense.
However, Wests Tigers quickly responded, with fullback Caitlin Turnbull showcasing her skill in a solo effort to bring the score to 10-4. Just before the half-time break, the Tigers made a strong attempt to score, but the Raiders' defense stood firm, leaving the score at 12-4 in favor of the home team.
Upon resuming play, hooker Salma Nour, who added energy to the Wests Tigers after joining from the bench, took advantage of a Tara Reinke offload to narrow the gap, making it a two-point game.
Just moments later, the Tigers claimed the lead for the first time. Faythe Manera created an opportunity by grubbering the ball and chasing it down, allowing Caitlin Turnbull to score her second try on the subsequent play.
Elise Simpson, not to be outdone, matched Turnbull by scoring again, which brought the match to a tense golden point situation at 16 points each.
