Former cross-code international Wendell Sailor has come out swinging against his old club, the St George Illawarra Dragons, over their treatment of his son Tristan, who is making a name for himself in the NRL.

Wendell, who was known for being one of the NRL's most formidable wingers in his heyday, earning caps for Queensland and the Kangaroos, as well as donning the Brisbane Broncos jersey 189 times.

After switching to rugby union and representing the Wallabies in 37 Tests, Wendell's career took a hit with a drug ban for cocaine use.

However, after serving a two-year suspension, the powerhouse winger returned to finish his playing days with the Red V.

Tristan, following in his father's footsteps, made his NRL debut in 2019 just a day after celebrating his 21st birthday.

Wendell's frustration with the Dragons' treatment of his son has been palpable, with the former star player not holding back on his thoughts about the matter.

It's clear that Wendell, having been through the highs and lows of professional sports, is fiercely protective of his son and won't stand idly by while he feels that Tristan is being mistreated by his former club.

Time will tell how this saga plays out, but one thing's for sure: Wendell Sailor is not one to shy away from a battle, whether it's on the field or off.
