Melbourne Storm powerhouse Christian Welch is reportedly weighing up a shock call on his rugby league career after suffering yet another concussion.

The veteran prop, who has donned the maroon jersey for Queensland and held leadership positions within the Storm ranks, has been plagued by a string of injuries and head knocks.

Reports from Fox Sports suggest that Welch sustained his seventh concussion in January during pre-season training, prompting him to take time away from the game to contemplate his future.

At 30 years old, Welch has also battled ACL and Achilles injuries, with the possibility of requiring back surgery looming.

While the timeline for Welch's decision remains uncertain, it is rumored that the NRL would support a medical retirement application from the player and his club.

It's a tough blow for the gritty forward, but sometimes in the game of rugby league, tough decisions must be made for the player's health and well-being.
