Western Australia is set to receive a new NRL team, as announced by Premier Roger Cook.

This development follows an agreement between the state government and the Australian Rugby League Commission concerning a funding commitment.

As reported by abc.net.au, Cook disclosed on social media that the state government will invest $65 million in the new club, which is expected to play its inaugural game in 2027 or 2028.

The funding comprises $60 million directed towards the team itself, along with an additional $5 million earmarked for match-day support and marketing efforts.

An official announcement had long been anticipated after months of negotiations, which faced setbacks earlier in the year.

Cook emphasized the positive implications of this investment, stating, "Not only will this be great news for sports fans, it will be great news for the economy and great news for jobs." The new team will participate in the NRL Premiership competition starting in 2027 or 2028.
