The New Zealand Warriors faced another disappointing draw in their round four Jersey Flegg Cup clash against the Wests Tigers, with a final score of 20-20.
This marks the second week in a row that the Warriors have seen a potential match-winning lead slip away.
In the previous round, they had a 22-14 halftime lead against the Roosters which ultimately ended in a 34-22 loss.
Against the Tigers, the Warriors started strong with a scoring spree that resulted in a 20-4 lead at halftime.
The Warriors' first try came when Jett Cleary's bomb was fumbled by the Tigers, allowing Jahrome Falemoe-Afamasaga to score in the 16th minute.
Cleary set up another try shortly after with a well-placed grubber that led to a try by Alvin Chong Nee.
The Warriors continued to dominate with quick hands setting up a try for Harry Tauafiafi-Iutoi before a break by Makaia Tafua led to a try for Raphael Sio.
Despite their strong start, the Warriors were unable to maintain their lead in the second half, allowing the Tigers to claw their way back and ultimately forcing a draw.
This result mirrors their previous match against the Roosters, where they were unable to hold onto their lead in the second half.
The Warriors' coach was disappointed with the result, stating, "We had another lead and unfortunately we couldn't defend it.
We need to work on closing games out better." Despite the frustration of settling for a draw, the team showed promise with their attacking plays and ability to score points quickly.
The Warriors will need to regroup and focus on improving their defense in order to secure victories in future matches.
As the season progresses, the team will look to learn from these close matches and work towards finishing games with a more solid lead.
