The Rugby League community is mourning the loss of a true legend with the passing of Bob Lanigan, a long-time NRL match manager and the original trainer for the Auckland Warriors back in the day.

Known affectionately as 'Bobby' or 'Lano', the 81-year-old will always hold a special place in Warriors history as the first strength and conditioning coach under original head coach John Monie when the club debuted in the Winfield Cup against Brisbane on March 10, 1995.

During the Warriors' formative years, Lanigan was adored by both staff and players alike.

Current assistant coach and club icon Stacey Jones, along with former Warriors head coach Frank Endacott, shared warm memories of him upon learning of his passing.

Having been with the Warriors from 1995-1999, Lanigan's partnership with Monie began in the 1980s during their time together at Parramatta before making their way to England and ultimately Auckland.

His connection with Kiwi coach Endacott was particularly strong, leading him to also serve as the Kiwi trainer from 1996-2000 while taking on roles as a rugby union trainer in Japan and Wales throughout his career.

Even after leaving New Zealand, Lanigan remained an integral part of the rugby league community, proving that his legacy will continue to live on.

Rest in peace, Bob Lanigan.
