In a tightly contested match on Saturday, the NZ Warriors were held to their second draw of the season, finishing 18-18 against Newcastle in the Jersey Flegg Cup at Trusts Arena, Waitakere.
The match proved frustrating for the Warriors, who missed crucial scoring opportunities in the dying minutes-a 30-metre penalty and a field goal attempt that both narrowly missed.
Newcastle also failed to convert a late one-point shot.
This draw follows the Warriors' previous 20-20 tie with the Wests Tigers in round four, making this result particularly disappointing since the Knights had only managed to win once throughout the season.
The game was competitive from start to finish, with Newcastle taking the lead in the 18th minute.
In response, just 23 minutes into his return from injury, Warriors centre Patrick Moimoi scored off a pass from dummy half Makaia Tafua, leveling the score.
