Will Warbrick embarked on a journey to Melbourne by himself during a pandemic, driven by ambition.
Now, nearly five years later, he is set to return home after 2026, and he feels it's the right decision.
The New Zealand Warriors have successfully signed one of the NRL's most thrilling outside backs, with Warbrick officially joining the team.
This signing makes strategic football sense, but there's a more profound narrative behind it.
"I think it's just the opportunity now to be back home in New Zealand and closer to my family," the Storm winger expressed during a media interview.
"I moved here just five years ago. I think COVID was still a thing. We were at the back end of COVID, so there was a lot unknown.
"It's been a great five or so years. I've loved it. I love being here, but for me, my main priority is my family."
Life changes constantly, shifting priorities often come into play; new relationships evolve, and suddenly, what once seemed unimportant becomes vital.
"I was more worried about Melbourne Storm and my career. I've got a partner now, and she's from New Zealand as well," Warbrick disclosed.
