Incoming Australian Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters is aiming for more than just victory on the field in this year's Ashes series; he's determined to reclaim his status as a top-tier head coach in rugby league.
Following his departure from the Brisbane Broncos, who eventually secured the premiership in 2025, Walters is focused on ensuring he has a strong support team with the Kangaroos. To this end, he's made significant additions to his coaching staff.
One notable inclusion is Willie Peters, the highly regarded coach of Hull KR, who will be joining the Kangaroos as an assistant. Peters is gearing up to lead his team to a second consecutive Super League Grand Final and will now lend his expertise to Walters' efforts in the Ashes.
Peters expressed his enthusiasm about the opportunity, acknowledging the significance of working with the national team as he aims to enhance his impressive credentials. "It's a huge honour to be working with the Kangaroos for the upcoming ashes," he remarked in a statement. "There's so much history between Australia and England and it's great to see they've brought the Ashes back."
