Walters Claims He'd Have Won Title with Broncos

The Brisbane Broncos recently celebrated their first premiership in almost two decades, with head coach Michael Maguire praised as the 'Drought Breaker' for his success in his inaugural year at the club.

However, not everyone is ready to fully credit Maguire. Kevin Walters, a former Broncos player and current Kangaroos coach, made a provocative statement regarding Maguire's achievements.

"If I had still been at the Broncos, sure I would have won a premiership," Walters stated on the Inside Ball Podcast.

Walters led the Broncos to the Grand Final in 2023, coming close to victory but ultimately falling short against the formidable Penrith Panthers. Nonetheless, Maguire managed to secure the premiership.

Despite insisting that success in Brisbane was inevitable regardless of the coach, Walters conveyed his enthusiasm about returning to coaching for Australia's Ashes series this year.

"I'm so excited to get back into coaching," Walters remarked.
