Walsh's comeback: Broncos held up in training tussle

Fresh blow for Broncos as Reece Walsh's return thrown into doubt after training setback

Reece Walsh's return to the Brisbane Broncos is uncertain after he experienced a "minor" setback during training.

Walsh, currently recovering from an MCL injury sustained in Round 7 against the Warriors, was expected to rejoin the team this weekend, marking six weeks since his injury.

Reports suggest that while the Broncos plan to name him in their squad for the game against Manly, concerns over his knee soreness have cast doubt on his availability.

According to The Courier Mail, Walsh felt some discomfort during Monday's training session, prompting questions about whether coach Michael Maguire will take a cautious approach with the $5 million fullback.

Although Walsh struggled for form prior to his injury, his return could significantly boost the team, which has won only one of its last six matches.

If Walsh is fit to play, Selwyn Cobbo, who has been filling in for him at fullback, will return to the wing for the upcoming match.

Cobbo has recovered from a wrist injury sustained against the Dragons in Round 11 and is expected to take the field against Manly.

His absence from the Queensland State of Origin team for the first game, where he was overlooked for Robert Toia, has also drawn attention.

Walsh's potential return coincides with recent scrutiny following a video that surfaced showing him punching a friend in the head while wearing a boxing glove at a social gathering.

The Broncos concluded their investigation into the incident last week, which required Walsh to donate to charity as part of the resolution.

Overall, while the Broncos hope to have their star player's return imminently, the latest training setback complicates the situation, forcing both the team and fans to remain cautious and hopeful.
