Walsh Reflects on Standards Amid Selection Dilemma

Walsh breaks silence on ‘disappointing’ Origin omission, shuts down ‘targeted’ claim

Reece Walsh recently expressed his feelings regarding his exclusion from the State of Origin lineup, describing the experience as "disappointing" following a call from coach Billy Slater.

The Broncos fullback was not selected for the opening match, but there is a chance for him to return if his teammate Ezra Mam remains out of the picture, potentially allowing Walsh to join the bench.

During a candid session with the media on Wednesday, Walsh recognized that his performance has not met the necessary criteria for selection.

"It was disappointing," Walsh remarked.

He continued, "Obviously as a young Queenslander all you want to do is grow up and play for Queensland. To not be named and get that call, I was disappointed."

Walsh is self-aware and candid about his situation. "But I know the standards it takes to play for Queensland and I'm a realist and I'm honest with myself and I probably haven't been living up to those standards that it takes to wear that Queensland jersey so I feel like that's what makes it so great," he said.

He emphasized the significance of the Queensland jersey, noting, "Once you put that jersey on, you know what it takes to get back there."
