Reece Walsh has decided to remain loyal to Australia and Queensland despite the potential eligibility for New Zealand due to Maori heritage.

This decision comes amid reports that Payne Haas and Tino Fa'asuamaleaui are considering playing for Samoa instead of the Kangaroos.

The issue arises from NRL rules that make players who represent tier 1 nations like New Zealand ineligible for State of Origin, while those who play for tier 2 nations like Samoa are allowed to compete.

Despite not having played a Test match yet, Walsh is eligible for both Australia and New Zealand.

However, he stated, "My heart was always pretty set on Australia and Queensland.

I grew up here and I always wanted to represent that side." He emphasized his commitment to representing Australia over his Maori heritage, acknowledging that he is still learning about his cultural background.

This decision aligns with his desire to play for Queensland in State of Origin.

The article also highlights the case of Addin Fonua-Blake, who is unable to play Origin despite being born and raised in Sydney due to playing one game for New Zealand in 2017.

Similarly, Isaiya Katoa, born in New Zealand but playing for Tonga, would be ineligible for NSW if he chooses to represent the Kiwis.

This dilemma raises questions about player's choices regarding national representation and eligibility for major competitions like State of Origin.

Walsh's stance sets him apart from Haas and Fa'asuamaleaui's potential switch to Samoa, as he prioritizes his Australian and Queensland roots in his decision-making process.
