Queensland legend Wally Lewis has taken aim at Michael Maguire's call to give Allan Langer the boot, likening it to axing Santa Claus.

Langer, a long-time staple at the Broncos, won't be on the coaching roster for the 2025 season, much to the dismay of the club's faithful.

The beloved Bronco was reportedly blindsided and peeved at the departure of his close mate and former coach Kevin Walters, with whom he secured multiple premierships.

Hailed as the finest Bronco to grace the field by inaugural coach Wayne Bennett, Langer holds a special place in the hearts of Brisbane supporters and has contributed in various capacities over the past two decades.

The decision to sideline him has ruffled feathers among the Broncos' old guard, particularly Lewis, who expressed disbelief and disappointment at the new coach's actions.

"I'm not privy to Madge's coaching methods, so I can't fathom his motivations behind this move," Lewis shared with Wide World of Sports.

"But it appears he's bought into the notion that change is as refreshing as a holiday, and felt the need to shake things up at the Broncos.

I was flabbergasted...

absolutely gobsmacked.

Giving Alf the pink slip is like parting ways with Santa Claus."
