In a move that will undoubtedly send shockwaves through the rugby league community, Sydney Roosters forward Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has revealed that the upcoming season will be his swan song.
The vice-captain, known for his hard-hitting style and bruising tackles, has decided to hang up the boots at the end of the 2024 campaign.
With an impressive career that includes representing New Zealand on 33 occasions and playing 292 games for the Roosters, Waerea-Hargreaves is on the verge of etching his name in the club's history books.
Just 15 more games would see him surpass the legendary Mitch Aubusson as the most capped player for the Roosters.
As one of the pillars of the team, Waerea-Hargreaves is also one of the last remaining members from the Roosters' victorious 2013 Grand Final triumph against the Manly Sea Eagles, his former club.
However, retirement doesn't mean the end of his rugby league journey.
Rumor has it that the bruising prop is in talks with Hull Kingston Rovers in the Super League, where he plans to extend his career.
Recognizing his immense contributions to the club, Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson spoke glowingly about Waerea-Hargreaves and the indispensable role he has played over the past 15 seasons.
