V'landys Aims for Global Rugby League Reach

‘Japan, Abu Dhabi, Miami’: NRL’s plan to go global as ‘unintended success’ of Vegas foray revealed

The NRL, under the direction of ARL Commission chief Peter V'landys, is aiming for a broader international presence.

V'landys, known for his innovative strategies, played a pivotal role in launching the NRL's Las Vegas opening round and is also credited with creating The Everest horse race, which has quickly gained popularity, becoming the second most significant race in Australia after the Melbourne Cup.

Building on the favorable reception from Las Vegas, V'landys is eager to take rugby league to new heights globally.

"We're looking at Wembley Stadium (UK), we're looking at Abu Dhabi, Japan, Hong Kong and even Miami," he stated, highlighting various potential venues for expansion.

V'landys expressed confidence that these events could become integral to people's travel plans. "I think people will add this occasion as a part of their holiday … We're giving them bucket list items to attend," he pointed out.

He firmly believes in the necessity of ambition in sports management, asserting, "You have to have ambition. If you don't have ambition, you'll just stay still."
