The omission of David Fifita from the Maroons Origin squad has caused quite a stir in the Rugby League community.
Maroons legend Paul Vautin did not hold back when discussing the reasons behind Fifita's snub, likening it to a tough reality check for the Gold Coast powerhouse.
Many anticipated that Fifita would make a comeback for the Game 3 decider at Suncorp Stadium after being left out of the first two games, but coach Billy Slater opted for experienced players instead.
Slater defended his decision by pointing out that Fifita has not replicated his standout performances from last season when he played a crucial role in Queensland's Origin victory.
Speculation surrounding Fifita's exclusion includes rumors about a potential move to the Sydney Roosters and concerns about his consistency on the field.
Vautin echoed Slater's sentiments, suggesting that Fifita's work off the ball was lacking, which ultimately led to his omission from the squad.
"Billy can obviously see some deficiencies in David's game," Vautin commented.
"Off the ball, he is a bit slack, and I think that's the reason Billy didn't pick him."
As the Rugby League community continues to dissect Fifita's absence from the squad, one thing remains clear - the competition for spots in the Maroons lineup is fierce, and players must consistently prove themselves to earn their place on the field.
