Trbojevic Adapts to Fight Concussion Risks

In a determined effort to extend his NRL career, Jake Trbojevic, the heart and soul of Manly, has made significant changes during the offseason.

After suffering three serious concussions in the 2025 season, Trbojevic is mindful of the potential for another severe head injury that could lead to early retirement.

Previously, head injuries were a lesser concern for him, as most of his earlier career was free of serious impacts.

Fortunately, retirement isn't on the immediate horizon, thanks to alterations in his training regimen implemented by the club to prepare him for his return to the field on Saturday against the Raiders.

Manly's medical team has revamped his routine, focusing on extensive gym work to enhance his neck strength, a strategy meant to lower the risks associated with field contact.

Additionally, Trbojevic will wear a cutting-edge headgear designed to mitigate concussion-related injuries, with research being conducted by Connectivity Traumatic Brain Injury Australia to assess its efficacy.

The innovative material of the headgear is purportedly engineered to absorb impacts to the head during play.

In a conversation with AAP, Trbojevic emphasized the importance of these adjustments, expressing his commitment to his career.

"I've given myself the best chance to not have the same thing (happen)," Trbojevic told AAP.
