'Incredible memories': Townsend calls time on 15-year career

Chad Townsend, a prominent player for the Sydney Roosters, has announced his retirement from professional rugby league, effective after the 2025 NRL season.

The 34-year-old playmaker joined the Roosters this year and made his debut for the club in Round 2, becoming their number 1236.

Throughout his 15-year career, Townsend has made over 250 first-grade appearances and accumulated 268 NRL games since debuting with the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in 2011.

He has played for four clubs: the Sharks, New Zealand Warriors, North Queensland Cowboys, and the Roosters.

Key achievements in Townsend's career include winning the NRL Premiership with the Sharks in 2016, co-captaining the Cowboys during the 2022-2023 seasons, and representing NSW City and the Prime Minister's XIII.

As he looks back on his time in the league, Townsend shared his thoughts on the incredible journey he has experienced.
